Farmers markets are increasing in popularity as more and more consumers are looking at the health and environmental benefits of buying organic, locally produced meats, vegetables and fruit. There are now nine regularly scheduled farmers markets operating in West Sound, most of them between mid- or late-April and early October. They provide an outlet for a growing number of small, organic farms in the area, as well as for vendors of a variety of crafts and for prepared food. It would be hard to visit one of our local farmers markets without finding something of interest, if only a good conversation with a producer or craftsperson.
